Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that represents about 10% of all diabetes cases. It happens when your body is no longer able to produce insulin because the cells that make it have been destroyed by your immune system. Your insulin levels go down and consequently, the sugar levels in your blood go up.
