Codocytes

Codocytes are red cells that look like shooting targets with a central bullseye and a darker outer edge. They are found in some types of anemia such as thalassemia (hereditary defect in the production of one of the two parts of hemoglobin), certain hemoglobinopathies (hereditary defect in hemoglobin structure), other types of anemia and in individuals whose spleen has been removed (splenectomy).
