Synonym: Simultaneous detection of COVID-19, Influenza A/B, Respiratory Syncitial Virus and 18 other pathogens. Respiratory multiplex NAAT
Respiratory multiplex PCR
In addition to detecting the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), this molecular test rapidly identifies the presence of influenza A/B and RSV as well as 18 other common pathogens causing respiratory disease. This polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test looks for the genetic material of a total of 22 viruses and bacteria (including SARS-CoV-2) in a sample of secretions from the nose and throat (oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab).
Take this test at Biron if you:
- are 2 years old and older
So you can:
- Determine if COVID-19 is responsible for the symptoms you are experiencing and quarantine yourself in case of infection, or
- Determine if symptoms are caused by another common respiratory pathogen (especially during flu season).
Specimen Type: Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab
A positive result to SARS-CoV-2 indicates that SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been detected and that you are considered to be infected with COVID-19 and presumed to be contagious.
A positive result to another common respiratory pathogen indicates that your symptoms may be caused by that pathogen.
A negative result means that neither the genetic material of SARS-CoV-2 nor the genetic material of the other common pathogens was present in your sample. You are not infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.
