Radiology (X-ray)

Radiology (X-ray)

Come when you want! Accessibility and fast service are essential to our patients, especially when they are waiting for a diagnosis. This is why we perform most X-rays exam without an appointment, including evenings and weekends, in 15 ImagixTM clinics throughout Quebec. All medical imaging and radiography examination prescribed by a physician* are covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

What is radiology?

Radiology uses X-rays to take images that make it possible to see the body’s various structures. It involves exposing an area of the body to a minimal dose of radiation to produce an image. The body and the organs absorb the radiation, and the image is created from the X-rays that manage to reach the digital plate without being absorbed.

X-ray imaging is quick, easy, and useful for diagnosing injuries, bone diseases, fractures, infections, degenerative diseases, cancer or any other condition.

Examination procedure

Conventional X-rays are usually painless and don’t require any specific preparation (some discomfort is possible when the body is being positioned). Women must inform their healthcare professional and the clinic’s technologist if there is a chance they may be pregnant, before the procedure.

For the X-ray examination procedure, you will be asked:

  • to change into a hospital gown and remove your jewellery and other metal objects, which can interfere with image quality
  • to lay or sit comfortably on an exam table for the duration of the procedure. The technician may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds at a time, while they capture images.

A medical prescription is required to perform this X-ray examination.

The costs of this examination are covered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) when prescribed by a physician.
