COVID-19 infection testing and serological test

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This virus can cause mild to severe respiratory illness and people infected with COVID-19 may have few or no symptoms.

Symptoms of COVID-19 may be similar to those of a cold or flu and may include:

  • coughing
  • fever
  • breathing difficulties
  • anosmia: sudden loss of sense of smell without nasal congestion, with or without loss of taste.

Find the right COVID-19 test for you

Biron offers two tests for COVID-19.

COVID-19 molecular PCR testing

Molecular test that identifies individuals potentially infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the time of testing. This polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) looks for viral RNA in a sample of secretions from the nose and throat (oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab).

A doctor's prescription is not required for COVID-19 PCR testing.

Due to a ministerial decree, a medical prescription is no longer required for the COVID-19 PCR test. If you have one, you must still bring it with you to your appointment. The duration of this measure is unspecified.

  • Test approved by government authorities;
  • $250 for sampling and analysis (reimbursed by most insurers);
  • Biron will make every effort to issue results within 24 to 48 business hours.

Do you require a medical certificate and/or a negative test result attestation for COVID-19 as a travel requirement?

  • Attestation of Negative Test Result : Request it when you arrive at the point of service for your test. Book an appointment: Online or 1 833 590-2712
  • Medical certificate : Obtain a medical certificate following a telemedicine appointment with a physician affiliated with Biron. To do so, contact Biron Corporate Health at 1 833 590-2716 or fill out a callback request.

Charges may apply for the medical certificate and the attestation of negative test result.

Serological test for COVID-19

This blood test checks for the presence of antibodies resulting from past or recent exposure to COVID-19. To date, the scientific community still knows very little about immunity to COVID-19 and there is currently no test to ensure that the presence of antibodies confers protective immunity. This is not a screening test for active infection with COVID-19.

  • Test approved by government authorities;
  • $145 for sampling and analysis;
  • Same day results available (depending on the time of receipt of the sample);
  • A doctor's prescription is required for the serological test for COVID-19.
