Documents to complete
If possible, complete and have on hand at your appointment one of the following documents depending on your child's age.
- Pediatric Pre-examination Clinical Summary 2-11 years: Click on the link
- Pediatric Pre-examination Clinical Summary 12-17 years: Click on the link
Without this document, we cannot interpret your results. If you use a desktop computer, you can complete the documents directly onscreen.
Preparing for the test
- Prescription: Make sure you have your child’s prescription with you. If any previous test results are available (overnight pulse oximetry, at-home polysomnography or sleep test), bring a copy to the appointment.
- Arrival time: You should arrive at your appointment time. It takes about an hour to prepare for and explain the test.
- Medication: If your child takes medication for sleeping, bring it to your appointment. The on-site healthcare professional will confirm whether or not it should be taken.
- Nails: A sensor will be placed on your child’s index finger or a toe for the duration of the test. There must not be any polish or a false nail on that finger/toe.
- Drinks: Your child should not drink any carbonated drinks or eat any chocolate or very sweet foods from early afternoon onwards.
- Personal belongings: When it is time for bed, your little one’s bedtime routine will be maintained. Please bring what is needed with you: a story book and/or small game and your child’s stuffie, pillow, and pyjamas. A light snack is allowed. A nightlight can be put in the room if your child does not want to sleep in the dark. AN ELECTRONIC TABLET WILL NOT BE ALLOWED: That inhibits/slows down secretion of the sleep hormone, melatonin. The bedroom is attached to a private bathroom where towels and body hygiene products are available to you.
- State of health: If your child is sick, has significant nasal congestion or is not in their usual state of health on the day of the test, it would be preferable to postpone your appointment by calling us at 1 866 341-4975.
Important
You will be installed in the same room as your child on a rollaway bed. There is an infrared camera in the bedroom to monitor and ensure your child’s safety. Wake-up time is around 6:00 AM.
