From November 1 to November 30, the entire Biron team encourages you to participate in Movember. This month is primarily dedicated to raising awareness about prostate cancer, the second most common cancer in men in Canada, preceding colorectal cancer [1]. This month is also an opportunity to highlight testicular cancer and how a cancer diagnosis can impact the life of a person and their loved ones. movember

A diagnosis that can affect mental health

Although 28 out of 29 men diagnosed with prostate cancer survive the disease, the consequences of this diagnosis on physical and mental health are often underestimated. In fact, receiving this news can be a real shock for the individual as well as those close to them. This often leads to stress, anxiety, and depression. While globally a man takes his own life every minute, Movember reminds us of the importance of recognizing distress and knowing where to find support [2]. There is no shame in asking for help – in fact, it’s considered a strength!

Testicular cancer

In November, we also encourage you to think about testicular cancer, another cause supported by Movember. While this cancer is often treated quickly and successfully, medical follow-up and support are essential to ensuring a full recovery. This month, we encourage all men to prioritize their health: get regular check-ups and stay informed about these cancers and their impacts.

We ask you to join the movement and show your support for these three important causes. Get involved in Movember in whatever way you can and in whatever way feels right to you. For more information, visit the Movember website: https://ca.movember.com/en/.
