ImagixTM provides you with specialized pediatric ultrasound services. When you book an appointment for a child, we can direct you to one of the radiologists in our vast network, who are specially-trained in pediatrics.

How long does it take to get a pediatric ultrasound?

At Imagix, our diagnostic centres give you access to pediatric ultrasound services. In less than a week, you can get an appointment for your test. As soon as the ultrasound is completed, the report is sent to your health care professional in less than an hour.

We provide the following pediatric services:

  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Pelvic ultrasound
  • Abdominal and pelvic ultrasound
  • Thyroid ultrasound

Preparing for the examination for children

Abdominal Ultrasound
  • Newborn to 2 years old: 4 hours of fasting (if the child does not eat, he/she can drink water 2 hours before the scan)
  • 3 years to 13 years: 4 to 6 hours of fasting
  • 14 years and older: consult the section preparing for the examination for adults
Pelvic ultrasound
  • Newborn to 2 years old: drink 2 hours before the scan
  • 3 years to 13 years: do not urinate before the scan and drink 450 mL (15 oz.) of water 30 to 60 minutes before the scan (varies by child)
  • 14 years and older: it is important to have finished drinking four eight-ounce (960 mL) glasses of water or juice 75 minutes before the test and not to urinate. You need to have a full bladder during your appointment.
Abdominal and Pelvic ultrasound
  • Newborn to 2 years old: 4 hours of fasting and drink water 2 hours before the scan
  • 3 years to 13 years: 4 to 6 hours of fasting
  • 14 years and older: consult the section preparing for the examination for adults
Thyroid ultrasound
  • No preparation is required before a thyroid ultrasound. However, we will ask you to avoid using body lotion and perfume, so as not to alter the quality of the images.

A medical prescription is required for this test. The cost of this test is covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
