Important Information: Instructions for your pre-post bronchodilator spirometry test

The test you are about to take will assess your lung function, diagnose, measure the effect and assess the severity or monitor the progression of lung disease.

Preparation for the exam

  1. Prescription: make sure you have your prescription on hand for your appointment even if you have already sent it to Biron
  2. Arrival time: show up 10 minutes before your appointment time.
  3. Wear comfortable clothes and avoid eating 1 hour before your appointment.
  4. Nails: a sensor will be installed on the index finger. This finger must be free of nail polish or false nails.
  5. Medication: Respiratory medications must be discontinued within hours of your test. Follow the following instructions:

8 hours Short-acting anticholinergics Apo-Ipravent, Atrovent, Combivent, Duovent, Teva-Combo, etc.
4 hours Short-acting bronchodilators Airomir, Alupent, Apo-salvent, Bérotec, Bricanyl, Maxair, Novo-salmol, Pro-Air, Salbutamol, Ventodisk, Ventolin,
Day of the appointment Stop tea, coffee, soft drinks, energy drinks containing caffeine, and chocolate. Abstain from smoking and avoid alcohol (minimum 4 hours before the test)

Medical Condition: If any of the following conditions apply to you, it is best to reschedule your appointment by calling us at 1-866-341-4975.

  • You have severe nasal congestion or an unusual medical condition on the day of your test.
  • You have had eye, abdominal or chest surgery within the last 6 weeks.

COVID: If you have had a positive diagnosis, you may attend your appointment if you meet the following conditions:

  • After 10 days following a positive diagnosis with no symptoms
  • After 21 days following a positive diagnosis with hospitalization or if immunosuppressed and without fever for 24 hours.

Delivery of results

The results are interpreted by one of our pulmonologists and will be available within 10 business days in MonBiron, the results portal.

Following your visit to our point of care, you will have received an activation code by email to create your MonBiron account. This code is required to create your account.
