Desjardins Insurance adds pharmacogenetic testing to eligible expenses under its accident and illness insurance coverage

Montreal, December 20, 2018 – Biron Health Group and its BiogeniQ division applaud Desjardins Insurance’s decision to include pharmacogenetic testing as an eligible expense under its accident and illness insurance coverage, at no additional cost.

In an announcement shared with its clients, Desjardins Insurance rightly states that “it is important that the investment our clients make in their health plans translates into the most appropriate treatments possible for the people insured.”

Pharmacogenetics makes it possible to treat a patient in a personalized way, based on their genetics. Pharmacogenetic testing helps increase the likelihood that a treatment will be effective, as well as reduce the risk of side effects.

BiogeniQ’s vision is to allow everyone to have a pharmacogenetic test before getting a prescription from their doctor to take medication. This is already the case in other countries, including England.
