This year, Biron Health Group has once again been named one of Canada’s best managed companies, for the seventh consecutive year. This exceptional achievement has earned it a place in the prestigious Platinum Club, the highest level of recognition by this program.

Biron is very proud of this nomination, which recognizes the merits of our strategy based on client needs, business results and employee well-being. A global vision, a good strategic alignment, the deployment of cutting-edge technology and flawless business management are all factors that explain our position on a list celebrating the excellence of Canadian-owned private companies.

This honour is also a testament to the attention we pay to the well-being of our employees through policies and practices that include a stimulating environment, career development opportunities, attractive benefits and flexible work schedules. We share this distinction with all of our dedicated professionals, without whom we could not have achieved all that we did in 2022.

Here is an overview of the four key projects that earned us this honour:

1. Strengthening of medical leadership

2. Key role in public health

3. Engaging communication tools

4. Digitization and optimization of sleep care services

Strengthening of medical leadership

As part of a major strategic alignment exercise, medical leadership has gained importance within Biron’s decision-making bodies.

A new medical advisory committee was created in 2022. Committee members, including the President and CEO, heads of the medical teams, operations managers and external experts, share their knowledge of and experience with medical advances around the world to provide decisive advice for the company’s competitiveness.

This committee enables us to use medical practice and thinking as the basis for our decisions, and to remain at the forefront of our clients’ needs by being innovative. It stimulates the creation of ideas, the search for differentiators, the strengthening of our medical offering and the variety of our range of services. It supports our strategy by evolving our value proposition. With this committee, entrepreneurial leadership and medical leadership inspire each other to take Biron to new heights.

The strengthening of medical leadership also involves good management. Each business unit is headed by a medical director. At Biron, we believe that impeccable, forward-thinking, efficient, proactive and accessible service promotes patient health.

Key role in public health

As a reference in health matters, Biron can influence political leaders and governments to advance issues for the benefit of all Quebecers. Thanks to our unique perspective on the context in which our brand evolves, we can implement, in close collaboration with governments, key initiatives that are beneficial to society.

  • We are helping to strengthen Canada’s capacity for early warning, risk reduction, and management of domestic and international health threats, such as through our biomonitoring project at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport. We were the first in Canada to establish a laboratory with a very high capacity for rapid testing at an airport to contribute to the country’s biodefence efforts in detecting biological threats.
  • We help the public health system achieve its goals through public-private agreements. Here are two examples:
    • We came to the aid of some hospitals when their magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) departments were overloaded. To reduce waiting lists, we provided access to equipment and staff at some of our clinics from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to supplement hospital services.
    • We developed and shared innovative solutions and processes to protect the health of all. For example, we helped a south shore hospital to get their MRI machine up and running by sharing our examination protocols and helping to train staff.

Engaging communication tools

A new form of video communication was introduced in 2022 to help operations managers in each business unit guide their teams and communicate their projects to the entire organization.

Each month, all staff receive “Express News,” videos that summarize what was achieved in the previous quarter and the actions to be implemented in the next quarter.

Strategic messages from management allow staff to not only understand how their individual contributions fit into the overall strategy, but also to recognize the good work being done by all of their colleagues. This communication is intended to be transparent and inclusive.

Focusing on intentions, not on business objectives, issues and solutions, the communications make them aware of actions being taken to serve our clients better and set us apart from the competition. The goal is to be inspiring and engaging.

Digitization and optimization of sleep care services

The use of digital technology allows us to enhance our client experience. This was the case in 2022 for our sleep care services with the deployment or enhancement of digital technology for teleconsultations, decision support and online shopping. Here is an overview of these tools:

Online sleep screening test: This tool provides an initial assessment of sleep quality and the opportunity to meet with a respiratory therapist free of charge.

Decision support: This new decision support tool facilitates the purchase of a device and equipment without making an appointment and without delays.

Chat and digital support: Offered as part of a treatment, this service provides online assistance without an appointment.

Online store: The store has been updated with new products, including a new home sleep test, and adjusted with more competitive pricing.

The objective of these new tools, offered in parallel with our in-person services, was to make our expertise available to all Quebecers, no matter where they are and when they need it.
