Information for healthcare professionals - Update on COVID-19

Biron, Imagix, Medvue and BiogeniQ

Last update - May 12th, 2020 - Your safety as well as the safety of our professionals and our patients are our top priorities and that is why we are implementing measures to limit the contagion risks.

Consequently, some modifications have been made to our service offering. Considering the rapid evolution of the situation, further adjustments could be made in the coming days. This page is intended for healthcare professionals. For patient information, visit biron.com/coronavirus.

Mask is mandatory

We ask that ALL patients come to the clinic with a mask (medical or not). We accept anything that covers the patient's mouth and nose as we wish to preserve our inventory of masks. This measure is based on public health recommendations and is for an indefinite period of time.

Essential services

Following the multitude of announcements made by the government concerning the closure of non-essential businesses, we would like to inform you that Biron and its partners Imagix and Medvue will continue to operate. Since many of the services that we offer have a direct and immediate impact on the health and safety of Quebecers, they are considered essential.

Business hours modifications

The business hours of some of our service centres and clinics have been modified. Updated business hours will be posted respectively on biron.com.

The following services will be back as soon as possible:

  • Any type of throat sampling

  • 24hr urine collection

Due to a possible shortage of swabs, the following analyses will also be back as soon as possible:

  • Chlamydia/gonorrhea screening (genital sampling) is replaced by chlamydia/gonorrhea (urine sampling)
  • Chlamydia/gonorrhea screening with anal sampling
  • Chlamydia/gonorrhea screening with throat sampling

Although Biron interrupts sampling for these chlamydia/gonorrhea screenings, we can proceed with the analysis of samples collected in another establishment if necessary.

Patients with an upcoming appointment for these services will be contacted by a customer service representative.

Medical material stocking

Clinics that order medical supplies from Biron for patient sample collection should note that a quota was established using an estimate of your needs. Our goal is to avoid a possible medical supply shortage, while still meeting your needs. Although these quotas apply to most of the material, please note that for the reasons mentioned above, Biron will not be able to distribute swabs.

The following services will be back as soon as possible:

  • Some non-urgent services (evolving list established by the ministère de la santé)

Our medical staff now assesses each appointment request to determine if the patient's condition requires them to leave their home and if it is safe for the patient to be in our service centre. As a result, some appointments may not be granted.

Upon arrival at the clinic, each patient will be subjected to a COVID-19 questionnaire and isolation measures will be applied if necessary.

COVID-19 designated centers

Public health officials are currently identifying clusters of medical clinics in order to create a network of service centres exclusively dedicated to treat patients who have, or are likely to have, the COVID-19 virus. We are proud to collaborate on this initiative by contributing our medical imaging clinic and our expertise to affected patients, all while ensuring the protection of our staff.

As a result of this special designation, we will only offer X-Rays and emergency ultrasounds to COVID-19 patients. All other patients are respectfully requested to visit another radiology clinic.
